CHARLES
MOREY
Charles Morey, born in 1989 in Fayetteville, West Virginia, began
playing the violin when he was two years old. He has performed as
soloist with numerous orchestras, including the River Cities Symphony
Orchestra, Seneca Chamber Orchestra, Marshall University Symphony
Orchestra, Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM) Orchestra, and the West
Virginia Symphony Orchestra. As concertmaster, he has performed with
the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, CIM Orchestra, Lexington Bach
Festival Orchestra, and the Suburban Symphony Orchestra. Also a
composer, in 2005 he performed his own set of variations on the tune
"Wondrous Love" with the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra, with an
orchestral accompaniment by Maestro Grant Cooper. He has soloed with
the WVSO four times, including one appearance as conductor, a result of
the Andrew and Amy Vaughan Student Symphonic Fellowship. In the Spring
of 2009, Mr. Morey won the Cleveland Institute of Music's concerto
competition, performing Prokofiev's Violin Concerto. He was also second
place winner in the 2009 Annual Milhaud Performance Prize Competition.
Mr. Morey is currently pursuing a master's degree at CIM, studying with
William Preucil.
