MINGLI
SUN
Chinese pianist Mingli Sun is currently studying collaborative piano
with Anita Pontremoli at Cleveland Institute of Music. Mr. Sun was
recently awarded the 2nd prize of the 16th annual Darius Milhaud
Competition at CIM. As a composer and pianist, his composition Light in
Distance for clarinet, harp and two string quartets' was selected in
the 43rd Darmstadt International Music Festival in Germany, 2006. His
other notable accomplishments include 1st prize of the Orchestration
Competition, 2007 and 3rd prize of Chinese Art Song competition, 2003
in China's Central Conservatory of Music. He received his Bachelor of
Music degree from Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, majoring in
composition and Master of Music degree from Cleveland Institute of
Music, majoring in collaborative piano. He has had master classes by
Sofia Gubaidulina, John Corigliano, Warren Jones, Arthur Rowe, Martin
Kats, Emanual Ax, and Dawn Upshaw. He was accepted by Aspen Music
School of Music and AIMS in 2008 and was a piano fellow at Tanglewood
Music Center in 2009.
